PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Iowa AMT members,

Iowa has hit a milestone in AMT life.  We now have over 200 members.  Not in my memory has Iowa had over 200.  I congratulate all of you for getting you memberships paid and knowing the value in keeping them up to date.  Are you all sending your ceu’s to National AMTIE office?  You really should do this, maybe on a quarter basis so as to keep yourself up to date on all that is happening.  It also shows your employers that you believe in keeping your competence at the top.  Do give the list from AMTIE with your credits on it to your employer.  It is a good thing to have on file.

I look forward to seeing as many as possible at the AMT Fall seminar in Iowa City.  Fred Witt has done a lot of work to see that everything will run smoothly.  4 ceu’s are what you will get from the morning, and everyone should be interested in the meeting.  We will be nominating members to the Awards Committee for the next National Convention.  Each of you should get involved at the state level.  You will never regret the friendships and never hurts to rub elbows with you fellow AMTers.  The visiting before and after is a wonderful way to network as well as share problems and situations and who knows, you may be exposed to an easy solution.

Again, be sure to be in Iowa City on September 20th.  You should have received your notice about 3 weeks ago. If not, come to Mercy Hospital at 8 am in Iowa City.  Follow the signs and we will welcome you there.

We had a very good meeting in Marshalltown.  Present were Tammy DIckinson, Fred, Witt, Shari Lentz-Buell, Pat Hite, Editor, Jemm Fos, and myself, Ginny Schuerman.

Minutes were read and adjusted to reflect that Fred Witt is now the State Secretary.  Thank-you Fred.  They were then approved.  Treasurer’s Report was given and approved.  We elected Peggy Smith as a delegate to national convention in Providence , Rhode Island this summer.  No one else felt that they were able to attend.  Time and money are always an issue, expecially when it is held at the coast.  We would all love to go, however.

Next on the agenda was the business of setting the fall meeting place and date.  It will be held in Iowa City, Iowa on September 20th.  We plan to start early at 8 am and try to be done early after lunch.  We listened to what members wanted for ceu’s and will try to comply.  Topics will be MRSA, histoplasmosis, phlebotomy, and a round table discussion.  They are topics that affect all of our disciplines, whether you work in a hospital lab, clinic, or doctors office.  We do need to have as many attend as possible.  Speakers are always much easier to get if we know that there will be a number attend.  Four (4) ceu’s for $15.00 is a bargain!!!  Remember that if you are new to AMT, you will need to acquire ceu’s in order to keep up you membership.  Membership usually translates into dollars.  So, you need us, and we need you!!

We also set the next board meeting for the last Wednesday in March of 2009 to be held at the Amana Holiday Inn on Interstate 80 at exit 225.  Everyone is welcome.

President Iowa AMT

Virginia Schuerman
